In order to meet this goal, Nexans wants to make every one of its employees a participant in this important program.
A Group plan has been defined for the 2009-2011 period. Progress plans — based on the rollout of best practices — have been implemented in every country.
- All human resources managers are involved and participating.
- A Group health and safety manager has been hired, and an online exchange platform for local safety leaders is now operational.
- The workplace accident frequency rate is one of the ten key indicators in the monthly industrial performance dashboard in each plant.
- Standards have been rolled out to prevent specifically major risks, such as electrical testing, and forklifts, use of rotating machines.
- An alert procedure for serious accidents is now operational, allowing information to be disseminated across all sites.
- A team of experts called Safety Core Team and composed of five experienced managers representing the geographical zones is charged with promoting and supporting Group-level safety initiatives.
- Safety Days are organized with the leadership of each country in order to reinforce safety awareness throughout the plants.
- Since 2008, three Safety Awards are given each year to 3 plants for achieving the “Outstanding Initiatives”, the “Outstanding Improvements” and the “Outstanding Results”.
We see results through these combined efforts: in 2008, 28 sites achieved one year without accidents compared to 11 sites in 2007 and 6 in 2006.
