Versailles sponsorship

Nexans sponsors cabling for the “Great Versailles” project

Nexans is a sponsor in renovating the technical networks of the Château and Estate of Versailles, one of the most visited monuments in the world. The Group brings its expertise in cabling and building safety to the project, donating the cables required for the renovation, in particular providing cables with enhanced fire-resistant characteristics.

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, the Palace of Versailles is one of the most visited monuments in the world. Launched in 2003, the Great Versailles project will enable the Château and the Estate to regain their original quality. The goal is to preserve an exceptional historic heritage site while also ensuring the safety of the seven million visitors who come to Versailles every year.

Specifically, Nexans will donate a range of low and medium voltage power cables, telecommunications cables and fiber-optic cables manufactured by the plants of Autun, Bourg-en-Bresse, Fumay and Lyon.
Nexans has chosen its Alsecure® product line for a large portion of the project. In the event of a fire, these cables allow safety systems to continue to work. In addition, they emit very little smoke and no toxic gases that could potentially threaten human health or cause damage to the site’s important collections.

The renovation project being supported by Nexans runs from 2007 to 2011 and includes:

  • Replacing all the electrical networks in the Château, Royal Opera and Trianon.
  • Creating a power hub under the courtyard of the Grand Commons,
  • Renovating the visitors’ reception area in the Dufour Pavilion and in the park as well as the groves near the Ballroom and the Fountain of Apollo.

Nexans sponsors the new Louvre-Lens museum

The Group is contributing its expertise in cabling and building safety by donating cables for energy and data transmission to this new, very innovative museum.

The new Louvre-Lens museum will revive this tradition with a “Louvre outside of the City” in Lens, in the heart of the former mining center of Nord-Pas-de-Calais. This major cultural site, in an area that has been affected by industrial and social crises, will be a driving force for economic and social development for the region.

Nexans has signed a sponsorship agreement with the Louvre Museum and the Nord-Pas-de-Calais Regional Council: the Group is participating in the construction of the museum by donating cables to equip the 28,000 m2 of buildings and their 55 acre park.

The contemporary museum of glass and light will provide a new look at the Louvre’s collections, changing exhibitions, will make the permanent collections visible and accessible, and will allow visitors to discover all of the professions that contribute to the preservation and influence of artistic heritage.

Construction is expected to begin in 2010 with opening planned for 2012.
