Extended strategic cooperation between Skanska Installation, Nexans and Ahlsell
Nexans halogen-free installation cables are being delivered to the New Karolinska Solna, the first joint project in the cooperation focused on products and solutions for future requirements in environment, function and total cost.
Grimsås, March 5, 2012 – Nexans, Skanska Installation and Ahlsell have agreed to extend their cooperation on cable deliveries to Skanska's operations. The parties are to jointly develop and deliver solutions and concepts to meet the requirements of the future in environment, function and total cost. For Nexans, the cooperation is estimated to mean cable deliveries to an aggregate value of around SEK 100 million.
Nexans' expertise in product development for better environmental choice, the company's full range of cables and their product characteristics were crucial to Skanska's choice of cable supplier.
– We have chosen Nexans as our main supplier because they meet our strict cable requirements regarding energy, environment and safety. In large building projects it is additionally important to have suppliers who have high delivery capacity, says Per-Ola Jönsson, VD Skanska Installation.
The first joint project in the cooperation is the New Karolinska University Hospital in Solna (NKS). Nexans is supplying halogen-free cables to the new hospital under construction which, when it is completed in 2016, will be run with the lowest possible environmental impact. New Karolinska Solna is designed to achieve the highest class in Environmental Building, a Swedish system for classifying the total environmental performance of buildings. The facility will also be certified under LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
– NKS is to be a long-term sustainable university hospital that is carbon-neutral. Skanska's choice of partner bolsters Nexans' position in sustainable building and confirms our strategic commitment to develop cables and service that meet the requirements of tomorrow in energy consumption, environment and safety, says Lars Josefsson, Head of Business Area at Nexans Sweden.
The extended cooperation begins in the first quarter of 2012, and the third party is Ahlsell, which will ensure that the best logistical solutions from the financial and environmental points of view are used and developed. It is extremely important to deliver the right product at the right time in complex projects such as NKS.
