CPR training at Nexans
At Nexans, we work purposefully to create a safe and sustainable work environment.
It’s not just about technology and procedures. Above all, it’s about being able to act quickly when it matters most. That’s why Nexans in Grimsås is certified as a heart‑safe company, equipped with both the knowledge and tools needed to save lives in the event of cardiac arrest.
What Does It Mean to Be Heart-Safe?
As a heart‑safe company, we follow the guidelines established by the Swedish CPR Council and the Swedish standard SS 280000 from 2015. This means that we have:
- quick access to defibrillators
- clear alarm procedures
- annual training for our trained first responders, known as “samariter”
- a sufficient number of trained employees across the organization
About the First Responders (“Samariter”)
A first responder is an employee trained in CPR and first aid who can step in during emergency situations at the workplace. At Nexans, the samariter receive annual training through Hjärtsäkra AB and practice performing CPR, using defibrillators, and handling various types of first-aid interventions. In Grimsås, the samariter are trained to the same level as rescue service personnel in first aid.
Quick Access to Defibrillators
Our site is large—about the size of twenty football fields. That’s why we have nine defibrillators strategically placed so they can be reached within three minutes.
Clear Alarm Procedures
In the event of cardiac arrest, 112 must always be called immediately. After that, the internal emergency line is contacted, which triggers an internal alarm sent to our trained samariter through our emergency service and an app.
Annual Training
All samariter undergo annual CPR and first‑aid training through Hjärtsäkra AB. This ensures their knowledge remains up to date.
Sufficiently Many Trained Employees
To maintain certification, at least ten percent of employees must be trained. At Nexans in Grimsås, sixty‑eight employees are currently trained samariter—equivalent to fourteen percent of the workforce.
Extra Preparedness at Nexans in Grimsås
Because we are located far from the nearest ambulance, we operate with enhanced preparedness. Our samariter are trained to the same level as rescue service personnel in first aid, enabling us to manage the critical first minutes independently.
How We Act When Something Happens
During a cardiac arrest, anyone may be the closest person on site. Therefore, we ensure all employees know where the defibrillators are located and feel confident to act immediately. A defibrillator is designed to be simple to use and provides step‑by‑step guidance.
Our Responsibility for a Safe Environment
Heart safety is an important part of how we work at Nexans in Grimsås. With trained staff, clear procedures, and the right equipment, we maintain preparedness that makes a real difference. Our goal is always to act quickly and create a safe and sustainable environment for everyone on-site—both employees and visitors.
