Things are happening out in the sticks – and Nexans AMCL is powering the change
Jan 26, 2026
Kvänum Energi on cable upgrades with a future-facing mindset
On a crisp autumn day, Nexans product manager Aron Andersson rolls into Kvänum. There’s frost on the fields, and an excavator is chewing through the ground with quiet determination. Aron’s here to talk cables – specifically how Kvänum Energi has experienced Nexans’ new AMCL 12 kV cable.
On site, he’s met by a team of hands-on, engaged colleagues who, between shovel loads, share their impressions from the field: the cable is easy to work with, and installation goes smoothly. After a quick chat in the cold, Jan Kronmarker, Head of Power Grid, brings Aron into Kvänum Energi’s welcoming warmth to discuss how AMCL fits into their broader network strategy.

What’s happening: Installing Nexans AMCL 12 kV in central Kvänum
Why are you reinforcing the grid right now?
We have to stay ahead. Local factories are expanding, people are installing solar panels, and demand for electricity is growing. We’re upgrading simply to be ready for the future – and to be able to loop-feed without issues if needed. At the same time, we’re laying fiber in the same trench to keep costs down. This project’s been running for over a year now.
How did you come across AMCL?
We’ve used Nexans cables for many, many years. Sure, there are other options out there, but we always come back to Nexans. They’re easy to work with, the quality is high, and we haven’t had a single issue in over 20 years. So when we saw Nexans launch a more sustainable alternative with the same technical specs... well, the choice was easy.
How has it performed so far?
It’s a bit more flexible than the previous TT cable, which is a plus. Other than that? No difference. And that’s also a plus. If you can maintain the same performance but use materials with a better environmental profile, there’s no reason not to switch. On top of that, being able to use the same tools and accessories as before makes things smoother. When something works, you stick with it.
What does the collaboration with Nexans and wholesalers mean for you?
A lot. Ahlsell in Trollhättan are fantastic to work with, and Nexans is a company where you can actually get hold of someone when you call. That’s not a given these days. Deliveries often go straight from Grimsås, which reduces the risk of transport damage and aligns with our sustainability thinking. The fact that the cable is made in the same county where we operate... yeah, it just fits our values.
You often highlight sustainability in your communication – tell us more.
We’re a small utility company with a strong sustainability profile. We offer 100% renewable electricity, build future-proof grids, and do it all with a personal touch. So AMCL fits right in. We’ve also used Nexans’ AML 1 kV before and seen how it boosts our sustainability reports. I was there when you opened the new medium voltage factory, and after that – plus a visit to your booth at Elfack – there was no doubt: we were going with AMCL.
You were among the first in Sweden to adopt it. What does that say about Kvänum Energi?
That we like to lead the way. It’s not a PR move – it’s just how we work. There’s a local spirit here that says anything is possible, just go for it. Environmental thinking is a must. We’re genuinely happy Nexans is taking these steps, because we want to be part of that journey.
Looking ahead – what do you think is the next big thing in power grids?
Hard to say. Political decisions can change everything overnight. But we’re already seeing a shift toward battery solutions and island operation. So we’ll keep building robust and smart – with technology that lasts.
Thank you for having us!
Big thanks to Jan and the whole crew at Kvänum Energi for a day filled with warmth and future talk. You can really feel the energy in this place – local businesses are booming, and they’ve even banded together to build their own hotel with a restaurant and conference space. Rural Sweden is alive and kicking, and we at Nexans are proud to bring the power where it’s truly needed – out in the sticks.
