Hidden benefits
Nexans has a lot to be proud of when it comes to power grid cables. Some benefits are noticed during placement and others half a century later. However, it is these hidden benefits that can be crucial when it comes to obtaining the best total cost from the electricity grid.
How old will you be in 50 - 60 years? Our power supply cables will still be in the ground. What really happens to a power cord from the time it is buried in the ground until it has done its job?
Important points to keep in mind:
1. Lowest total cost seen in 50 - 60 years
2. Plough longer instead of excavating = save money
3. Available 24 hours a day
4. On time delivery
5. Flexible cable lengths
6. Tested and sampled
7. Adapted to Nordic conditions
8. Widest range on the market
9. A stable business partner
Safe for a long time
The mains cables for ploughing from Nexans spend up to 60 years in the ground.
– Many of the benefits of our cables do not become visible until after half a century. But these hidden benefits are often crucial to getting the best total cost from the electricity grid, says Mats Klarén at Nexans.
Below are examples of how a Duolex cable can withstand the
test of time compared to a standard cable:
Day 1: The round construction of Duolex means that the cable is quick to settle settles into the ploughed trench.
10 years: Thanks to double jackets and shock-absorbing construction, Duolex is not damaged by frostbite. Insulation of the standard cable risks being damaged by pressure from large stones.
15 years: Duolex still looks like a new cable. Damage to the standard cable results in poorer resistance to moisture and physical impact.
30 years: The standard cable is now so worn it needs to be replaced. The cable is dug up and incinerated.
40-60 years: Duolex does not last forever. Lifemark® labelling is embossed on the sheath and shows which material is contained in the cable and the materials can be recycled.
