Nexans launches new climate-smart medium voltage cable – AMCL 12/24 kV
Apr 30, 2025
Developed in collaboration with customers
Nexans has developed a cable that meets the electrical industry's demand for both high performance and reduced climate impact.
Nexans AMCL 12/24 kV is a new medium-voltage cable with thermoplastic insulation (TPI), recycled materials, and local manufacturing – developed in close collaboration with customers aiming to reduce emissions from one of their largest sources of climate impact.
Up to 50% lower climate impact*
Recyclable thermoplastic insulation (TPI)
Low-carbon aluminum conductor**
At least 45% recycled plastic in the outer sheath
Handles higher emergency loads (130 °C)
Resistant to water treeing
Lifemark™ environmental labeling for traceability and efficient recycling

Technical design for reuse and a lower footprint
One of the key innovations in Nexans AMCL is the use of thermoplastic insulation (TPI) – a material that, unlike today’s common PEX insulation, can be melted down and recycled at the end of the cable’s life. TPI is the insulation material of the future and was first introduced by Nexans in the low-voltage segment. Now, it’s being brought to medium voltage – with AMCL as the first product of its kind.
Together with a sheath made from recycled plastic and a conductor made from low-carbon aluminium, AMCL is a concrete example of how cable design can reduce the need for virgin raw materials and contribute to lower carbon emissions across the full life cycle.
Produced in a new factory – close to the market
The new cable is manufactured at Nexans’ newly inaugurated, state-of-the-art facility in Grimsås, Sweden. Locally produced, with shorter transport distances and energy-efficient production – all to support customers aiming to reduce their climate impact while ensuring high delivery reliability.
The factory, along with the new cables now being produced there, marks the beginning of a new era in Swedish cable manufacturing.
The cable has been developed in close dialogue with customers in the energy and power grid sectors, with the aim of meeting both technical requirements and growing demands for responsibility throughout the value chain.

We are proud to offer a product that combines innovative materials and construction to ensure long-lasting and reliable operation. ”
