“Overwhelmed and impressed” – EMAB visits the factory in Grimsås
Nov 3, 2025
It took a little while, but good things come to those who geek out. Back in December 2024, Morgan Erlandsson from EMAB in Ulricehamn won a factory tour in our Advent calendar competition. On October 30, 2025, it finally happened.
Along for the ride were four colleagues – a 50 km trip one way from Ulricehamn to Grimsås – all geared up to take a closer look at something they work with every day but may never have truly seen before: how a cable actually comes to life.
And we were more than happy to show them.
From breakfast to the factory floor
As all good days should, it started with breakfast, coffee, and a quick intro to Nexans and our latest product updates. Jonas Brännström, Product Manager for Installation, gave a quick run-through of the Easy family: Alsecure EQLQ Easy, MXQ Easy, FQQ Easy LED, and AML. Then Håkan Brandt, Product Manager for Alarm & Security, took over to present our brand-new hybrid cable.
There was squeezing, poking, stripping and lots of talk. We discussed cable dimensioning using our free online tools EasyCalc and EcoCalculator. But more than anything, the group was waiting for the real treat: stepping onto the factory floor. And you could tell.
“We want to see everything”
With protective gear in place, Jonas led the way through walkways, safety gates, and production zones. The group wasn’t just there for a glimpse – they wanted to really understand.
And they did.
The tour took them through Power cables, the Lab, Telecom, Opto, and our brand-new Medium Voltage facility. We also showed the high-voltage testing area (an exclusive treat), explained copper drawing, stranding, insulation, sheathing, and marking. They saw plastic mixing, fire testing, and deep dived into our sustainability solutions like recycled copper, TPI insulation, and full traceability.
By the time we reached control cables, they’d already lost count of everything they’d seen.
“It’s a whole different world”
The sheer number of steps, the testing, the precision – it was eye-opening.
Several of them admitted they’d never really thought about what happens before the cable hits the distributor’s shelf. One of the visitors, Anders Svensson, had actually been here before as an electrician – about 25 years ago – and noted just how much had changed.
Lunch in the canteen wrapped up the day, giving the group a chance to digest it all – both the food and the impressions – and bump into some familiar faces from back in the day. There were laughs, stories and that extra something that makes a factory visit truly great.
Thanks, EMAB. You’re welcome back anytime. Maybe bring the whole crew next time?
We at Nexans always get a little extra excited when we get to show off our factory to people who actually work with our products – especially when it’s a local company like EMAB. The conversations are honest, curious, and to the point. Just the way we like it.
And yes, we were kind of impressed by them too.
Maybe it’s your turn next time
Because who knows – there just might be another Advent competition coming up. Keep your eyes peeled.
